Northwood Elementary School
Puyallup School District
Puyallup School District’s Northwood Elementary School is a replacement school that will serve up to 730 students. Construction occurs on an occupied site, so the team has focused on minimizing impact to students and teachers during the process. Growing from the current, single-story 35,000SF facility, to a two-story, 80,500 SF school, the design team is focusing on maintaining the deep sense of community as well as a warm and welcoming environment in the new school.
New residential development is occurring in the City of Edgewood, including on property immediately adjacent to the school. The new design will take advantage of a beautiful view of Mt. Rainier. With a large protected wetland nearby, the new school has high sustainability goals, and will incorporate access to the outdoors for the environmental education program. Northwood Elementary will be complete in time for the 2019 school year.
