Project Details
Funded through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s Distressed Schools Grant, the 12,100 SF Madison Middle School project includes a two-story addition to the north side of the existing school, which holds Landmark status with the City of Seattle. The addition includes six general purpose classrooms and two science labs, relieving the overcrowding at the school and allowing the removal of aged portable classrooms. All classrooms have multiple large windows to allow plenty of natural light. The Science rooms have ample storage cabinets with writeable surfaces on the cabinet faces. The first level of the new addition connects to the main building on the ground floor, where two existing classrooms were modified. New flexible breakout spaces were created under the main staircase and at the upper & lower hallways, while the second level of the addition connects to the existing rooftop terrace. A 450 SF bicycle enclosure provides additional on-site bike parking for students and staff. The Madison Middle School addition was opened in 2022.
