Project Details

Studio Meng Strazzara served as the prime architectural consultant for this project involving the development of design-build bridging documents. The project included preparation of all building program, project requirements and concept designs. Additional work included working with Sound Transit to define phased site access for the occupied site, and assisting Sound Transit with the development of the RFP for design-build procurement.

The Maintenance of Way (MOW) facility is a 26,500 SF, two-story building that houses the MOW track, power, and facilities divisions. The Sound Transit Police Department will occupy a portion of the administrative areas initially. A 4,000 SF accessory storage building that will serve both the MOW and Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) storage is to be built on the site.

The MOW Facility is responsible for maintaining equipment associated with the light rail system tracks and associated right-of-way.

The facility will support the Airport Link, University Link, South Link, and Northgate Link, and will ultimately house 82 MOW employees and 54 police employees. The MOW building is in operation 24 hours a day with active staff.
